Brisbane Lions
The Brisbane Lions were created in 1997 via the result of a merger between Fitzroy Lions (1897) and Brisbane Bears (1987). They were branded as the Brisbane Lions, playing home games at the Gabba and using a variation of the Fitzroy theme song and the Lions moniker.
The Lions achieved major success pretty quickly, winning a three-peat of premierships in 2001-03. Favourite son Michael Voss returned to coach the club in 2009, but poor trading and a string of off field problems have anchored the Lions near the bottom.
